Hi all.

I have a strange leak on the Gal that I cant trace. The leak appears to be coming from the front drivers side, somewhere behind the tow hook area.

I`ve checked engine, power steering, brake (took ages that, had to take the bloody air box off!) and water fluids which are all ok.

The fluid is clear, with an oily feel to it. Any thoughts to what it could be?

Its appears to be dripping off the oil cooler pipe, so maybe that? although I thought the oil cooler, cooled the engine oil (which is the usual diesel black colour  ) and the dripping fluid is clear.

Anyhoooooo, has anyone got any ideas please?

Snap, mine goes into the dealers tomorrow for exactly the same thing. i came out and found an oily mark at that position on the driveway.

i think it is an AC leak. the oil is from the oil in the refridgerant, as you say it is clear in colour so it's not hydraulic fuild nor is it engine oil.

my drip seems to be coming from the "P" clip holding the High pressure AC pipe just below the pressure switch.

i think the clip might have fretted on the pipe?

Aha!

Our aircon hasnt worked since we had the car (still waiting for the dealer to re-charge and service it).

That may explain why it isnt working then

Snap,so does mine.

It's a clear fluid with an oily feel to it. Frauds said it was condensation off the air con, rubbish.

It's going back in next week,so we will see what porkies they come up with this time.

I presume when the warranty runs out they will find what it is and I will have to sell the house to pay for it.

I would have thought the refridgerant would have vapourised immediately on escaping.

Against my better judgement ( and bunch of tossers that they are ) I think I would agree with Frauds on this.

The refrigerant gas would vapourise and disappear - but the oil would not - that would land on the ground and look and feel..... like oil!!

I checked the p/steering fluid and all was well  . I`ll have another check round it tonight before I go to work.

All the fords we have had before, have all had some kind of leak

Put the car into the dealers in the morning, they called in the afternoon to say they had found an oil leak and replaced the oil filter!!!! i told them that it was note and eninge oil leak and i even told them the exact loaction of the leak. so i asked to speak to the forman. i told him the leak i was worried about was from the AC he said that they couldn't find anything? i decide i would go and show them. 20 mins later i turned up, got the to put it back up on the ramp and then pointed the dripping oil at the loaction in front of the O/S wheel. they then took of the under covers and the leak could cleary be seen from the A/C pipe at the pipe clip position i said it was. they were still dubious about it leaking because they said they had checked the A/C pressure and it was ok. they decided to do a dye pen test of it and low and behold they was a leak!

upshot is that they are replacing the A/C pipe under waranty.

is there anything i should be wary of with them doing this? i.e. can they F*ck up something else replacing that pipe?

mmm, maybe the trainie was working on it :o

I reckon mine is the aircon as well cos all other fluid levels are fine. I`ll give the dealer a ring today and book it in. (he`ll be pleased with the extra warrenty work ;) :o )

Well here we go again, it's gone into Frauds this morning for the same fluid leak. I've told them to look at the pressure pipes coming from the air/con.

I've told them i don't want it back until it's fixed, run it around the block, take it home for your dinner, leave it running all day,but FIX IT this time.

On another point,I said service it while it's there...how much?

Is it petrol or diesel...why

The diesel is dearer...why

Well people,it's back. Three days in the main dealers and they say it's a plate on the side of the gearbox that had a very slight leak from it.

Anybody got any idea what they are talking about,it's now got a new gasket.

Another strange thing,I said can I have a copy of the warranty claim for the rocker gasket they changed in November. That didn't go down well at all.

Labour charge to Fords...time..2.70..
